Elaine, who was born and raised in Beijing, China, wrote “Have fun, and make sure you tell people you like them” as the advice that changed her life. Her mother taught her that life is meant to be experienced and enjoyed—not just about working or winning—which challenged cultural expectations she grew up with. Over time, she also learned the importance of expressing love openly, especially after experiencing loss, believing that words carry powerful emotional energy others deserve to receive.
